Course overview

Given the importance of international tourism the course aims at providing an understanding of the phenomena, concepts and frameworks of international tourism. The course focuses on the following components:

  • Foundation: terms and definitions
  • Historic overview of international tourism
  • Basic knowledge concerning the contemporary tourism industry
  • Examines the demand and supply sides of travel and international tourism

Course overview

The course focuses on sustainable development and management with regard to environmental issues in different tourism sectors. It examines key players such as airlines, tour operators, cruise shipping and gives insights about waste management, energy consumption and animal welfare in the tourism industry.

Students will acquire the ability to judge and compare the influences of tourism on resources, society and environment and to analyze their pros and cons. The students will understand how International Sustainability is put into practice in the tourism sector.

Through a combination of theoretical and practical examples the students will learn the essential topics. Students will prepare for class by reading given documents, preparing group presentations and discussing on the topic that is presented.

Course overview

Next to content expertise, soft skills and above all presentation skills (the ability to present yourself and a content successfully) are necessary key competencies playing an eminent role at university as well as in business life.

Introduction to the basics of presenting with accent on presentations in a scientific context including arguments and structure, but also body language are content of this course. Self and time management, learning styles, teamwork, the creative mind set as key competencies are additional topics.

The students will get familiar with basic rules which help to become more convincing and professional in presenting a topic in a scientific context. By the end of this course the students should be able to apply them in a successful and effective presentation. Moreover, they learn about strategies on self and time management, on how to handle stress and how a creative mindset works. Learning in this course is experience-oriented, with elements of training and team work.

Course overview:

This course is a seminar on intentional changes of business organisations.

Course content:

The seminar contains the basic theory on change management and organisational development which will be studied by means of a business simulation. In a second phase, the use of selected Change Management techniques will be trained (case study).

Learning objectives:

The students are enabled to understand the structure of organisational change projects. They learn to identify the main tools and techniques that are used to drive change and overcome resistance to change. Based on this theoretical foundation, the students will be enabled to design the roadmap of a change project and apply selected CM-tool along the way.

Course content:

This project offers you the chance to learn negotiation-techniques and –tricks, so that in the future you can conduct your negotiations successfully and confidently. There will be a focus on practical exercises, in which you can implement the skills acquired. Finally, a general overview and helpful tips will be gained from the perspective of a hotel purchasing agent.

(7532) Collaboration in International Teams (2,5 ECTS)

There are people who like to work alone and see benefits in doing so. Others like to work in a team, however often we do not have a choice and teamwork is a basic requirement in the working place and it is a valuable skill in the personal tool-box. Working together might be complex but if we add a diverse working environment it is even more challenging as more communication skills, creativity and negotiating abilities are required.

Analysing group dynamics in general and in a diverse environment in particular, conflict management and decision making will be part of the topics in this course.

The students will be offered various scenarios where teamwork is needed. Furthermore, trainings will be carried out along the lessons so the students can implement the learnt theories.
